You askI have ten minutes tonight. Where should I start reading the Bible?

PILLAR responds

Start with Mark 1. It moves quickly and puts Jesus at the center: who he is, what he announces, and how he treats people.

For your ten minutes:

  1. Ask simply: “God, help me see Jesus clearly.”
  2. Read Mark 1 slowly. Don’t worry if you don’t finish.
  3. Notice:
    • What does Jesus say or do?
    • What does this show about him?
    • Is there one response you should make?
  4. Write down one sentence to remember.

Tomorrow, continue where you stopped. Reading one Gospel steadily is better than jumping around, and Mark is an excellent place to begin.

My brothers and sisters, whenever you face various trials, consider it all joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance complete its work, so that you may be complete and whole, lacking in nothing.

If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
